Staffordshire Barn Owl Action Group, Monitoring Results
BOAG monitors barn owl nest boxes that have been installed over most of Staffordshire and compiles breeding records at the end of each breeding season. The results gathered have been meaningful since 2005, when enough boxes had been installed and were being used by barn owls (see the graph below).
BOAG puts up new nest boxes in new locations each year, so, the number of nest boxes to monitor increases on annual basis. A variation in numbers from year to year maybe as a result of weather conditions and/or the vole cycle having an affect on breeding success or failure.
